Hello! I think I have procrastinated long enough so I am re-igniting my passion to blog by showing you the beautiful surfing capital of the north - San Juan, La Union. :)

Urbiztondo beach waves |
If you're traveling from Manila, you can reach the province of La Union via Edsa, then NLEX, SCTEX and finally, TPLEX (Exit Pozorrubio, Urdaneta or Binalonan). It took us about 5 hours via private car. There are buses available but you'll be far more comfortable bringing your own vehicle.

Typical morning outside Villas Buenavista Hotel & Resort |
They do not call this place the surfing capital of the north for no reason, but tourists who happen to love the sea but are not really keen on surfing will still enjoy San Juan because of its tropical vibe, the quaint restaurants and cafes, and the friendly local people.

Heed the warning, surfers! |
The sea is quite unpredictable so if you want to surf, make sure you stay here for at least 3 days. Well, if you're planning to study how to surf, perhaps you should consider staying longer. Prices for a surfing lesson vary. I saw one priced at Php400.00 / person / hour.
Sebay Surf Central is the perfect hangout for surfers and would-be surfers. It is strategically located at Urbiztondo Beach where the waves are just right for surfing. It also has a restaurant at the beachfront, perfect for a couple of cold drinks while enjoying the view. There is also a hotel and restaurant right beside Sebay but a bit pricey especially if you are traveling on a budget.

Lazy morning at Villas Buenavista |
If you're like me who puts a premium on privacy and some peace and quiet, you can book a resort hotel like Villas Buenavista located a few kilometers away from the surfing area. It has its own pool and has spacious rooms equipped with a bathtub. You can also take beautiful walks along the beach (it is a beachfront property) and listen to the waves while basking under the sun or eating inside the cozy restaurant. The restaurant serves brewed coffee, a must-have for business travelers like me who need their caffeine fix early in the morning and later at lunch time.

Surfing at sunset |
It has only been a couple of days but I already miss this place. I'll definitely return to this beautiful paradise soon. :)
If you wish to book your stay at Villas Buenavista, you can check out their website through this link: www.villasbuenavista.ph or simply email reservations@villasbuenavista.ph.
