City of Aachen

Living in Maastricht for a year had its advantages.  For instance, I had easy access to nearby tourist destinations like Liege in Belgium and Aachen in Germany. The city of Aachen is just an hour away from Maastricht.  Simply take bus 50 in front of the train station,  pay 7 euros (round trip so please don't lose your ticket),  and voila!  Germany, baby!

Aachen offers a huge array of specialty stores.  It's definitely a shopaholic's haven.  If you are not into shopping, you can go on foot and explore the city. It has marvelous views. Before going home, I suggest that you drop by the rathuis (town hall) and take a snapshot of the majestic Aachen Cathedral (Aachen Dom) - the oldest cathedral in northern Europe and the final resting place of Charles the Great (Charlemagne).  Likewise, if you're interested to know more about Charlemagne's life, take a tour around the palace for 10 euros. It's definitely worth it.
